Fundamental Sports Labs

For funders

Fund the
pilot

Money and AI skills, taught through sport, inside programs people already attend, so grant dollars pay for teaching, not buildings.

Why now

Two new California laws

Under AB 2927, California now requires a semester of personal finance to graduate, starting with students who graduate in 2030–31. A 2024 law, AB 2876, requires the state to consider adding AI literacy to its math, science and history–social science frameworks. FSL's sessions will give young people a hands-on head start on both, through the sport they already play.

The 2027 pilot

What the pilot needs

  • College coaches

Two trained, screened college coaches at every session, paid as FSL staff or through campus Work-Study.

  • Screening and training

A California DOJ background check and child-abuse reporting training for every coach and volunteer, before they work with kids.

  • Laptops and the playbook

FSL laptops for the AI and stats work, and a written playbook for every session.

  • Family materials

Permission forms, materials and updates in Spanish and English, and the take-home stat sheets and money plans.

What we'll report

Four numbers, good or bad

After each pilot cycle we'll publish four process numbers, even when they're small. We'll report a result only after two or three seasons of real data, and we'll never borrow anyone else's numbers.

  • 01

    Attendance

How many players came back each week.

  • 02

    Sessions

How many sessions ran as planned.

  • 03

    Builds

How many players finished their own stat tracker and money plan.

  • 04

    Programs

Whether each partner program asks to keep the sessions.
